Things to Consider Prior to Cosmetic Procedures

All cosmetic procedures have the potential for risks and complications; however uncommon they may be. It is important that you are aware of these, to enable you to make an informed decision of both the benefits and potential risks involved. A thorough consultation is always conducted prior to treatment.

All procedures at Enhance Aesthetics are carried out by a qualified and experienced cosmetic nurse with a strong focus on patient safety and natural results.

Less Common but Possible Risks:

Volume Enhancing Treatments

Common Side Effects

Common injection-related reactions include redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising and tenderness at the injection site. These reactions are generally mild to moderate and usually last less than 7 days after treatment.

Other less common or rare side effects include without limitation:

·         Discolouration

·         Nodules

·         Mass/induration

·         Infection/abscess

·         Allergic or inflammatory reactions (e.g., delayed-onset nodules)

·         Acne-like formations

·         Granuloma

·         Hypersensitivity reactions

·         Ischemia/necrosis

·         Vascular occlusion — when filler is accidentally injected into a blood vessel, which can lead to tissue damage or, in very rare cases,              blindness

·         Atrophy/scarring

·         Long-term or delayed swelling or nodules

·         Migration or movement of the filler material

·         Reactions of herpes infection (cold sores) in susceptible patients that are carriers of HPV

·         Rash

·         Telangiectasia (visible blood vessels)

·         Hives

Reactions can arise a few days, weeks or months after injection. These reactions are generally mild to moderate and self-limiting with an average duration of 2 weeks, however, there have been some cases where reactions have been recurring and have lasted for several months. If this should occur, further medical assessment and treatment is required.

In the case of an adverse reaction, further short-term use of treatments for anaphylaxis, hyaluronidase to dissolve dermal filler, antibiotics oral/topical or the long-term surgical removal of filler.

Important Notes:

·         A thorough consultation and facial assessment are performed prior to any treatment to minimise risks.

·         Injectable treatments should not be used with women who are pregnant or breastfeeding or under the age of 18 years old.

·         Some HA dermal filler products contain lidocaine and must not be used on individuals with known hypersensitivity to lidocaine or                    amide-type local anaesthetic agents.
